Olympics on the barricades

There are conversations in France about the huge difficulties that could prevent Paris from holding the Olympic Games with dignity. The main difficulty is the early parliamentary elections that resulted in protests and clashes with the police in the country’s cities. Against this background, there has been talk in France itself about a possible postponing of the Games.

According to retired French Army General Dominique Delaware: “The Games will take place three weeks after the elections to the National Assembly. France will find itself in a kind of chaotic situation. There is a serious risk of major riots related to the election results. The government will barely be formed three weeks after that, and demonstrations are likely to take place all over France, which will make it very difficult to organize the Games. The security forces in the republic are now a little overloaded and will be overloaded with everything that may happen during July. July is going to be a very tense month in France. Chaos may break out everywhere, and, of course, the intervention of security forces will be required, so personally I am not very calm about how these Olympic Games will be held,” the general concluded.

The big problem is the lack of proper transport logistics on the French side, which allows hosting a sports tournament of this level. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said that the Paris public transport system was not yet ready to receive all visitors during the upcoming Summer Olympics back in January. Nothing had changed by the beginning of the games!

Do not forget about the unwillingness of French law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of the Israeli sports delegation against the background of possible mass anti-Israeli protests, as well as manifestations of racism and xenophobia by French radical fans.
